Roseberry Gardens

Completed in the summer of 2108, this project required a total refurbishment of a an aged terrace house. While making upgrades and repairs to the building fabric and utilities, the opportunity was taken to alter the layout and add rooflights.

On the ground floor, the decision was made to not extend into the side garden, but out to the rear, creating a long space for the kitchen and dining room. Full height windows and doors along the side elevation allows for plentiful sunlight throughout the day, as well as allowing the two rooms to open into the side garden in better weather. A rooflight located over the dining table gives the room brightness even in an overcast day.

The wall separating the two principle rooms was removed to create a large single family room. By retaining the side garden this room is able to be filled with daylight. The opening up between the kitchen and living room allows for the rooms to interact with each other as well as allowing secondary light to filter through from each space.

On the first floor, a rooflight that stretches through the loft allows sunlight into the otherwise enclosed hallway and even manages to allow daylight to filter down into the ground floor entrance hall.

Crantock Road

For this project, the split of the dormer into two was deliberate in order to break up the mass of the dormer. This provided articulation that allowed the dormers to remain secondary to the main building mass.

Feasibility study for the refurbishment of a 880m2, 5 storey, grade II listed villa, including a new 55m2 basement under the rear garden for a private client. Coull Architecture were the lead London consultant within an international team undertaking a feasibility study to determine the planning risk for the proposed development.
Project management responsibilities included managing the tender, briefing, appointment and invoice processing of over 20 consultants and surveyors; coordination of the team including meetings, minutes and instructions; risk and programme management; providing ongoing feedback to the client team including a synopsis of the planning risks through a series of pre-application meetings.
Architectural services covered the design of the basement construction for a swimming pool and ancillary spaces and guidance and feedback on the internal refurbishment of the original villa.
